Minee Musings: How Minee Got Her S-Groove Back
Quick check-ins are quick!
Welly, well, well… been a while, eh? I’ve been more of a one-track mind lately. And, to be honest, it seems that reading through the plethora of news happening in the gaming world isn’t inspiring me to write as much Ugh, not much of an excuse, but I seriously think it’s time to change course and be less newshound-y and just write Features and Reviews. ‘Course, if something big goes down, I’ll certainly write about it, but otherwise, my energies might be better serve this way for now.
Enough of that! Time for some quick run-down check-in stuff.
Birthday goodies!: It’s been exactly two weeks since I celebrated my 32nd birthday. And I got lots of goodies (either on or around that happy day… they still count!), including birthday money from my folks:
I honestly can’t remember the last time I got this many presents on my birthday. It was a nice. Speaking of pressies, I got a $10 Credit for the PlayStation Network today. Wish I had $5.00 extra in my PSN Wallet, would’ve been able to get Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus (already have it on PS2, but we’re gonna get the recent Arcade update very soon that has quite a few changes so… yea) or Darkstalkers Resurrection. Gonna have to remember to pick up a PSN card to round it out, yea? Heh, heh, heh…
Hunka-hunk of burning love: I’ve been staying up and sleeping in quite a bit lately, all because of one game:
Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom.
Now this game came out on Valentine’s Day last year, and I only got around to playing it thoroughly lately. I’m almost done; only one last path to go through and it’ll free me up to play Warriors of the Shinsengumi. I quite enjoy it, but find that it’s taking me longer than I thought to get through the paths. There is a good reason for that, though!
I’ll probably get into this more when I write up the review, but he has one of the sexiest voices (if not THE sexiest voice) in videogames. Ever. Every time he pops up and talks, I end up going through the Dialogue History and listen to what he says over and over and over again… for five minutes. Oh God, dat VOICE!
… *le sigh*
Re-Focus Attack: It’s been… oh, three and a half months?… since I decided to seek employment elsewhere. I still do work for my previous Taskmasters; helping their web team by uploading articles onto their CMS. It’s easy work, and I quite like the fact that I do this at home. But, since it’s only once a week for only a couple of hours, can’t really lean on that for much longer Not to mention my cash reserves are looking kinda scarce. EEE…
Guess I have to invoke the “Adult Card” and go out and get a jobby-job. I guess I’m being picky because I don’t want to be stuck doing something that I’ll probably end up disliking. Might not be the smartest thing ever, but I really want to do something I enjoy.
Speaking of enjoying stuff, I tried to do a follow-along game design class with the fine ladies of Pixelles Montreal. They were running an incubator, allowing women to create their first videogame, from design document to finished product. They only took a small handful of ladies to the in-person meetings, but they also accepted follow-alongs at home. So I followed at home. Didn’t finish my RPG during the six-week incubator, but I’ll certainly go back to it.
More importantly, the whole thing made me think that I really should give game design another shot, making it a side hustle, I suppose. I used to play around with game-making programs, and I have to admit that firing up RPG Maker XV and creating maps and the like was fun. Though I love RPGs, I’ve always wanted to make a fighting game (HA!), but I need to write out the story. I’ll take the chance to put something to paper by participate in Camp NaNoWriMo next month. At the very least, I’ll get some of it going (don’t think I’ll finish). I’ll also need to start doing some homework; breaking down a certain game to see how it ticks and see if there’s some systems I might want to use. Fun!
Crystals for Life: Finally, there’s gonna be a speed run marathon this weekend called “Crystals for Life”. These peeps are going through as many Final Fantasy games as possible to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. They’re offering some awesome prizes for those who donate: artwork, soundtracks, plushies… even a Super Famicom with all the Super Famicom Final Fantasy games! It starts March 15 (that’s tomorrow!) at 8 PM EST, so be sure to check ‘em out here and give!
I guess that’s it for ramblings. To end, here is a vid of people losing their minds during a Super Street Fighter IV: AE match, with commentators destroying the mics with their shouting and people going nuts on the stream chat. Dat HYPE!
